Abstract
The potentiostatic anodic oxide growth on Al, Nb, Ta and Ti shows devi ations from the high field model, eg an overshooting current. The form ation of mobile ionic space charges by an emission of anions and catio ns from the interfaces explains the shape of the transients, the coupl ing of anion and cation migration, and an oxide growth at both interfa ces.
