N-Pentafluorophenylcarbonimidoyl dichloride reacts with aromatic hydro
carbons (benzene, toluene, xylenes, and mesitylene) in the presence of
AlCl3 to give stable N-pentafluorophenylbenzimidoyl chlorides, which
can further react with aromatic hydrocarbons to give azomethine deriva
tives. An increase in the number of methyl groups in the molecule of a
hydrocarbon favors the reaction.
