Abstract
Using resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS) we have determined the cr ystallographic orientation of a tantalum single crystal from a measure ment of its mechanical resonance spectrum. This accomplishment is sign ificant not only because it reduces the sample requirements for RUS bu t also because it is the simplest method for simultaneous determinatio n of a crystal's elastic constants and microscopic crystallographic or ientation.
