In this paper, a method of analyzing the salient performance character
istics of line-commutated converters during unbalanced operating condi
tions is presented. Simple analytical relationships are established wh
ich relate the negative-sequence component of ac current to the negati
ve-sequence component of voltage. These results are verified using a d
etailed valve-by-valve simulation of a line-commutated inverter connec
ted to a photovoltaic array.
