Abstract
This paper reviews some important items for the design of new zeolite- metal complex supramolecules. After an overview of the synthesis metho ds for these systems, complexation reactions inside zeolites are discu ssed in detail. The last part is focused on the effects of encapsulati on on the reactivity of the complexes. 1. Introduction 2. Methods for metal complex fixation in zeolites 2.1. Template synthesis 2.2. Cation ic exchange of complexes 2.3. Adsorption and anchoring of complexes on dehydrated zeolites 2.4. Ligand synthesis inside the zeolite 2.5. Lig and adsorption from solution on metal ion exchanged zeolites 2.6. Adso rption of the pure ligand on metal ion exchanged zeolites 2.7. Mechani sm of retention of the complexes 3. Complexation reactions inside zeol ites 3.1. Complexation by monodentate ligands 3.2. Complexation by bi- and polydentate ligands 4. Effects of zeolites on the chemical reacti vity of occluded metal complexes 4.1. Zeolite effects on oxygen activa ting Co(II) complexes 4.2. Zeolitic photophysics and photochemistry 4. 3. Zeolite effects on chemical reactions 5. Conclusion
