Abstract
SiC platelet reinforced composites for tribological applications have been fabricated by pressureless sintering with 94% theoretical density using a 2.6 mol.-% yttria-TZP matrix and a 20 vol.% dispersion of fin e SiC platelets. The effects of silicate sintering aids on the microst ructure and mechanical properties of the composite are discussed.
