Abstract
Eighteen healthy dogs were randomly divided into three groups of six a nimals each. Diazepam was administered epidurally at 1, 1.5, and 2 mg/ kg of bodyweight in the three groups, respectively. The time (in minut es) for disappearance and reappearance of various body reflexes were r ecorded. A dose level of 2 mg/kg bodyweight diazepam produced quick ab olition of reflexes and the longest duration of analgesia. Clinical pa rameters including skin, rectal temperatures, pulse, respiratory rates , and central venous pressure and mean arterial blood pressures were r ecorded at 0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes and at 24 hours after diazepa m administration. Only pulse rate changed significantly during the stu dy with an increase recorded during anesthesia. None of the animals sh owed neurological damage or toxicity.
