The methodology for evaluation of the elastic properties of continuous
fiber composite laminates with various levels of porosity is proposed
by the authors.1 The proposed model utilizes the latest non-destructi
ve testing (NDT) techniques to estimate the degree of porosity in a pa
rt. NDT data are used as input to the analytical model which is based
on constitutive theory for elastic composites with distributed damage.
The practical applications of the model and investigation of the effe
ct of porosity on the elastic properties of representative aircraft co
mposite laminates are presented in this paper.
