Reaction of [NPr4]2[WSe4] with [Ag(PMe3)I]4 in CH3CN followed by addit
ion of PMe2Ph affords the title compound, ndotungstide)tris(di-methylp
henylphosphinesilver), [(mu3-1)(mu3-WSe4){Ag-C8H11P)}3] [systematic na
me: ;1:3:4kappa3Se-selenido-1kappaSe-trisilvertungsten ], a neutral cu
bane cluster. The compound was characterized by a single-crystal X-ray
structure determination. The molecule has crystallographically impose
d symmetry 3, with the W, the I and one Se atom located on the threefo
ld axis. The structure can be described either as three Ag(PMe2Ph)+ fr
agMentS bridged by one mu3-WSe42- ligand and one mu3-I- ligand, or as
a WAg3Se3I cubane cluster core with an Se2- ligand bound to W and a PM
e2Ph ligand bound to each Ag.
