Transport critical current densities J(c) have been measured as functi
ons of temperature and magnetic field for textured Bi1.8Pb0.4Sr2Ca2Cu3
Oy silver clamped thick films prepared by a physical deposition method
. At 77 K, J(c) displays a very sensitive field dependence, with an or
der of magnitude decrease of J(c) from 0 to 1 T. Large J(c) anisotropy
was observed for magnetic fields parallel and perpendicular to the fi
lm plane. As the temperature decreases, J(c) increases rapidly and the
magnetic field dependence of J(c) is significantly weakened. A J(c) v
alue larger than 10(4) A cm-2 at 52 K and 7 T was obtained, suggesting
the possibility of application of Bi-based material using a coolant s
uch as liquid nitrogen.
