R. Kanetake et al., FRACTAL ANALYSIS OF X-RAY-EMISSION FROM CENTAURUS X-3 OBSERVED BY GINGA, Publications of the Astronomical Society of Japan, 46(3), 1994, pp. 235-241
X-ray time series data from the 4.8-second binary pulsar Cen X-3 obser
ved by Ginga were analyzed. We studied the fractal dimension of the X-
ray intensity of the total 1.7-37 keV energy band. The fractal dimensi
on of the temporal behavior on time scales greater-than-or-equal-to 4.
8 s is comparatively large (less-than-or-equal-to 7). This implies tha
t the variability of this source is characterized by perturbations hav
ing a small size compared with the system scale. The existence of a lo
wer dimensional (large-scale) motion with a time scale of 500 s is sug
gested.
