Abstract
Pd2+ ion shows 100% inhibition of the oxidoreductase activity of xanth ine oxidase, the nature of the inhibition being the uncommon mixed typ e (competitive-non-competive); to our knowledge this is the first exam ple of mixed inhibition of xanthine oxidase, and also of the fact that Pd2+ can act as an inhibitor of enzyme activity.
