Abstract
Rb-Sr isotope analyses of inclusion fluids from quartz have demonstrat ed a Triassic age (236+/-3 Ma) for N-S-trending Pb-Zn-F vein mineraliz ation in the Tamar Valley district of the Cornubian orefield. Consider ation of the stratigraphy and structure of the Permo-Triassic basins b oth onshore and in the English Channel suggest that this mineralizatio n results from the formation of fractures during regional extension-dr iven subsidence, and the subsequent ingress of basinal brines to the V ariscan basement.
