Abstract
Two novel fluorine-containing aromatic polybenzimidazoles were synthes ized by direct polycondensation of 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)dibe nzoic acid with 3,3'-diaminobenzidine tetrahydrochloride and 1,2,4,5-b enzenetetramine tetrahydrochloride. The effect of introduction of fluo rine on the synthesis and properties of these polymers is discussed. T he new polybenzimidazoles show good solubility in organic solvents, ex cellent mechanical properties and high thermal stability.
