We studied the free radical status in children with thrombocytopenic p
urpura. The formation of reactive oxygen species was evaluated using l
uminol-dependent chemiluminescence. The studied group consisted of 25
children divided in subgroups by the form of the disease and glucocort
icoid treatment. We revealed that almost in all cases of the crisis sp
ontaneous and activated chemiluminescence got intensified, though fell
to normal values in clinical remission. The diversity of values can b
e explained by specific features of pathogenesis in different forms of
the disease, neutrophil-platelet interactions, the influence of gluco
corticoids.
