ARE THE ASSOCIATIONS BETWEEN ALZHEIMERS-DISEASE AND POLYMORPHISMS IN THE APOLIPOPROTEIN-E AND THE APOLIPOPROTEIN-CII GENES DUE TO LINKAGE DISEQUILIBRIUM
T. Tsuda et al., ARE THE ASSOCIATIONS BETWEEN ALZHEIMERS-DISEASE AND POLYMORPHISMS IN THE APOLIPOPROTEIN-E AND THE APOLIPOPROTEIN-CII GENES DUE TO LINKAGE DISEQUILIBRIUM, Annals of neurology, 36(1), 1994, pp. 97-100
Allele frequencies for polymorphisms in the apolipoprotein E and the a
polipoprotein CII genes were determined in subjects of Ashkenazi Jewis
h origin with late-onset Alzheimer's disease and in unaffected control
subjects from the same ethnic group. A significant association was ob
served between late-onset Alzheimer's disease and the epsilon 4 (112(C
ys-->Arg)) allele of apolipoprotein E; however, no association was det
ected with apolipoprotein CII. These results suggest that the associat
ion with epsilon 4 is probably not due to linkage disequilibrium.
