A. Schade et O. Distl, THEBIS - A VETERINARY INFORMATION AND DAT A SYSTEM FOR HERD HEALTH MANAGEMENT .1. SYSTEM CONFIGURATION AND DATA FILING, Praktische Tierarzt, 75(7), 1994, pp. 587
The computerized veterinary herd management and information system THE
BIS was developed for the dairy farm of the Teaching and Research Unit
Oberschleissheim of the Veterinary Faculty at the Ludwig-Maximilians-
University Munich. THEBIS is designed modularly, is running under menu
and window technique of the operating system Sinix which is similar t
o Unix. As a special property of THEBIS, it is in a network with proce
ss computers to be used for recording individual animal data and with
a overregional computer network. The data input can be done separately
for individual animals and the herd as a whole. Process computer data
can be read and, if necessary, changed. For each animal, all fertilit
y data as calving, heat, insemination, pregnancy, dry off, and all man
agement events as entrance in or leaving the herd, change of the barn,
participation in an experiment can be recorded via menus. All health
related events of the individual animal or of parts or the whole herd
can be documented for the veterinary examinations, diagnoses and thera
py. Besides an extensive recording, a shortversion, especially for rep
eated routine and prophylaxis examinations and treatments, can be used
.
