Abstract
In this work we derive analytically a set of equations that describe t he slow coupling process of Raman backscattering in an inhomogeneous m edium in which the plasma density is a linear ramp. Then we consider t he convective amplification of the Raman instability in the underdense inhomogeneous plasma taking into consideration the collision damping in addition to the background inhomogeneity.
