Abstract
Soliton propagation in media with cascaded chi((2)) nonlinearities is investigated. The exact soliton solutions of the governing equations a re studied. They are either independent of any free parameters or depe nd only on one. In the limit of a large mismatch the equations have a well known two-parameter nonlinear Schrodinger soliton solution. The a nalogous two-parameter families of solutions for arbitrary phase misma tch are found by means of the variational approach. This proves Menyuk 's robustness hypothesis.
