Data on height, weight and pubertal development of 8596 Dutch children
were taken to study differences in health status between children liv
ing in neighbourhoods of different socioeconomic level in Rotterdam. T
he data were obtained during regular school medical examinations of ch
ildren aged 5, 7, 11 and 14 years. Children living in poor neighbourho
ods appeared to be shorter than children living in rich neighbourhoods
. Overweight appeared to be mon prevalent amongst children living in p
oorer neighbourhoods.
