Abstract
An easy and fast method for recording and analyzing chromosomal data b y computer is introduced. ,CHROMEX' is a computer program for IBM-comp atible PC's that relies on commercially available and moderately price d hardware (XT, 640 kb). The program (developed in 1989) has been exte nsively tested for various karyomorphological applications as well as for teaching courses. Features are: construction and management of kar yological databases, fast comparison of karyological parameters (e.g. r-value, Lr, Si, Gi), calculation of means of multiple probes, and aut omatic sorting. 2-D analysis of data can be presented as idiograms, ka ryographs, and scatter-diagrams. Program operations are completely exp lained in an online handbook. CHROMEX is available to interested scien tists.
