A method to correct track brightness in the streamer chamber of the GI
BS spectrometer is described. The concentration of air at the front an
d rear areas of the chamber is changed by redistributing the flow of t
he working gas between different holes in the chamber walls. The unifo
rmity of tracks on photographic plates produced by particles with unit
charge can be improved or the brightness of tracks due to incident mu
ltiply charged particles in the input area before the target can be re
duced.
