Ej. Nijhof et al., A LASER-DOPPLER SYSTEM FOR MEASURING DISTRIBUTIONS OF BLOOD PARTICLESIN NARROW FLOW CHANNELS, IEEE transactions on instrumentation and measurement, 43(3), 1994, pp. 430-435
A laser-Doppler velocimeter with microscopic probe volume has been dev
eloped in order to measure concentration distributions of particles in
flowing suspensions containing, e.g., blood cells or microspheres. Ex
periments on flow through simple geometries were performed to demonstr
ate the applicability of the apparatus. Velocity profiles could be mea
sured with an inaccuracy of about 2% and a spatial resolution of 15 mu
m, whereas concentration measurements yielded typical inaccuracies of
7%. The determination of absolute particle concentrations without addi
tional calibration was demonstrated to be feasible too.
