The object of our studies was the synthesis of the insect neuropeptide
proctolin (Arg-Tyr-Leu-Pro-Thr) and its 42 analogues modified in posi
tions 1-4. The activities of proctolin and its analogues were examined
in various biological preparations, such as: myotropic effects in sel
ected insect species in vitro and behaviour of rats in vivo. The struc
ture/activity relationship in these varied preparations will be discus
sed.
