Some properties of a surface polaron in polar crystals are studied. Th
e effective Hamiltonian of the surface polaron is derived using a pert
urbation method. If we consider the interaction between phonons of dif
ferent wave vectors in the recoil process, the influence on the effect
ive Hamiltonian, effective potential, and effective mass are discussed
. Numerical calculations for GaAs, ZnS, and AgBr crystals, as examples
, are performed.
