Abstract
The phenomenon of stabilization of highly excited states of a hydrogen atom in a strong monochromatic field is discussed. An approximate des cription of the dynamics from the introduction of the Kramers map allo ws one to understand the main properties of this phenomenon through an alogy with the Kepler map. The analogy between the stabilization and t he channneling of particles in a crystal is also discussed.
