Disseminated aspergillosis is very infrequent in patients infected by
the human immunodeficiency virus and diagnosis is made usually upon ne
cropsy. The case of a 28 year old male who presented multiple abscesse
s by Aspergillus sp. in the lung, thyroid glands, spleen, myocardium,
pancreas, kidney and in both cerebral hemispheres is presented. The pa
tient also concommitantly showed M. avium in the spleen, liver and cen
tral nervous system. The literature was reviewed to evaluate the clini
cal characteristics and predisposing factors which may contribute to d
iagnosis and treatment.
