Bj. Rivers et al., CANINE GASTRIC NEOPLASIA - UTILITY OF ULTRASONOGRAPHY IN DIAGNOSIS, The Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association, 33(2), 1997, pp. 144-155
The utility of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of canine gastric neop
lasia was evaluated prospectively in a series of six cases subsequentl
y confirmed as having adenocarcinoma by cytological or histological ex
amination or both. Gastric neoplasia was associated with mural thicken
ing with loss of normal wall sonographic layers and decreased or absen
t local motility. Sonographic findings were consistent with tumor loca
lization obtained by other diagnostic methods employed. Ultrasonograph
ic-guided, percutaneous, fine-needle aspiration biopsies were successf
ul in two of She three cases in which they were performed. Ultrasonogr
aphy appears useful in the diagnosis of canine gastric neoplasia.
