This article examines the pharmacologic agents used in pediatric cardi
ac arrest resuscitation. Emphasis is placed on analysis of currently r
ecommended drugs, with discussion of their mechanisms of action and th
eir actual utility. The recent addition of high-dose epinephrine to th
e pharmacopeia is discussed in view of the data that has become availa
ble since its incorporation into resuscitation protocols. The antiarrh
ythmic agents are discussed briefly. Extensive discussion is carried o
ut concerning agents that can be used for supporting the cardiovascula
r system after cardiac arrest.
