Abstract
This article summarizes the clinical experience with the new, orally a ctive iron chelator, deferiprone, for transfusional iron-loaded patien ts with thalassemia and other refractory anemias. In addition, it revi ews novel uses of iron chelation and potential new applications in acu te iron poisoning.
