This article describes recent evidence that epinephrine is effective i
n treating children with bronchiolitis; however, there is no evidence
from studies to support the use of glucocorticoids for bronchiolitis.
Administering glucocorticoids to patients with croup results in a fast
er resolution of symptoms, a lower probability of hospital admission,
and a faster discharge rate from the emergency department. Either L-ep
inephrine or racemic epinephrine can be used for patients with croup w
ithout the automatic need for hospital admission, provided they are ob
served in the emergency department for a period of time.
