S. Ricciardi et al., BEHAVIORAL AND BIOCHEMICAL EFFECTS OF A NEW POTENTIAL NOOTROPIC AGENT- Z4105, Journal of drug development, 6(4), 1994, pp. 159-170
Z4105 3-methyl-5-isoxazolylcarbonyl)amino)butanoic)acid] has been comp
ared to the reference drugs piracetam and oxiracetam, For its cognitiv
e enhancing properties, in a series of biochemical and behavioural stu
dies. In these studies, Z4105 was shown to be the most active drug in
reverting the amnesic effect of both ECS and MAM, which points to its
potential as an agent for improving learning and memory function. The
effects of Z4105 on impaired memory induced by cerebral ischaemia are
less clear and require further investigation. The biochemical data ind
icate that Z4105 increases the activity of the brain cholinergic syste
m without affecting other neurotransmitter systems.
