Ep. Horwitz et al., A LEAD-SELECTIVE EXTRACTION CHROMATOGRAPHIC RESIN AND ITS APPLICATIONTO THE ISOLATION OF LEAD FROM GEOLOGICAL SAMPLES, Analytica chimica acta, 292(3), 1994, pp. 263-273
A novel extraction chromatographic resin comprised of a 0.75 M solutio
n of the macrocyclic polyether bis-4,4'(5')-[tert.-butylcyclohexano]-1
8-crown-6 in isodecanol supported on an inert, polymeric substrate for
the separation and preconcentration of lead from acidic media is desc
ribed. The material is shown to retain lead efficiently and selectivel
y over a wide range of nitric acid concentrations. Sorbed lead is read
ily recovered using any of a variety of complexing agents. The resin i
s demonstrated to be sufficiently stable to handle large sample volume
s or to permit reuse. Application of the resin to the isolation of lea
d from geological samples for subsequent mass spectrometric determinat
ion of isotopic ratios is described.
