Abstract
Diode pumped continuous wave laser oscillation at wavelengths between 1.9 and 2.1 mum in a thulium doped silica fibre that uses Bragg reflec tors for cavity feedback is reported. These lasers exhibit low pump po wer thresholds and quantum efficiencies close to unity.
