The paper describes a pulsed phase detector used to measure the Farada
y effect. The effect of pulse-edge jitter on the measurement accuracy
is suppressed by dividing the pulse repetition rate into two in the me
asuring and reference channels of the detector. The detector specifica
tions are: range of measured phase differences -300...+300-degrees; ti
me constant 0.2 sec; sensitivity approximately 0.001-degrees; nonlinea
rity of the output voltage as a function of the phase shift, less than
0.5% over the entire dynamic range.
