Abstract
Currently, there are no objective methods available for evaluating the appearance of coating systems. The American Society for Testing Mater ials (ASTM) offers pictorial standards that are time-consuming and per haps inaccurate. This paper examines the feasibility of image analysis in quantifying degradation of the visual appearance of current ASTM p ictorial standards used in evaluating traffic paint degradation for ab rasion and chipping resistance.
