Abstract
Using bis(cyano)bis(9,10-phenanthroline)iron(II) as solvatochromic ind icator, the acceptor numbers, A(N), were determined for binary mixture s of benzene, benzonitrile, acetonitrile, acetone, N,N-dimethylformami de, dimethyl sulfoxide and hexamethylphosphoric triamide with methanol . Deviations from linearity of the plots of A(N) values against the mo lar fraction of the components were interpreted both in terms of chang es in solvent liquid structure and in cathegories of preferential solv ation.
