An assessment of the thermodynamic properties of the liquid phase in t
he MgO-SiO2 system at one bar is performed using the calphad technique
. The liquid is described using a two-sublattice ionic liquid model. T
he thermodynamic data for the solid phases used are from previous eval
uations considering high pressure and high temperature phase equilibri
a and the available calorimetric data. With the assessed parameters, t
he experimental phase relations are reproduced very well and a good ag
reement is obtained with the calorimetric data on enthalpy of fusion.
