Abstract
it has been found that the thermal expansion of titanium is anisotropi C in the temperature interval 10 less-than-or-equal-to T < 160 K. Spec ifically, the expansion coefficient is negative along the hexagonal ax is and positive in the basal plane. This anisotropy is explained in te rms of a particular feature of the electronic structure of titanium: p roximity to electronic topological transitions.
