A case of non-fatal massive bone marrow necrosis (MBMN) is reported in
a patient with primary thrombocythaemia five years after diagnosis. N
o precipitating cause was identified. The patient developed postnecrot
ic myelofibrosis six months later. As far as is known, this is the fir
st report of MBMN in a case of primary thrombocythaemia.
