Abstract
We study massless QED2 With N flavors using path integrals. We identif y the sector that is generated by the N2 classically conserved vector currents. One of them (the U(1) current) creates a massive particle, w hile the others create massless ones. We show that the mass spectrum o beys a Witten-Veneziano type formula. Two theorems on n-point function s clarify the structure of the Hilbert space. Evaluation of the Freden hagen-Marcu order parameter indicates that a confining force exists on ly between charges that are integer multiples of +/-Ne, whereas charge s that are nonzero mod(N) screen their confining forces and lead to no n-vacuum sectors. Finally we identify operators that violate clusterin g and decompose the theory into clustering theta vacua. (C) 1994 Acade mic Press, Inc.
