Mj. Himelein et al., NONCONSENSUAL SEXUAL EXPERIENCES IN PRECOLLEGE WOMEN - PREVALENCE ANDRISK-FACTORS, Journal of counseling and development, 72(4), 1994, pp. 411-415
The authors of this study examined the prevalence of nonconsensual sex
ual experiences in dating situations among a sample of 330 incoming fe
male college students. Results indicated that 38.5% of women reported
experiencing at least one form of sexual victimization in dating, rang
ing from unwanted sexual contact to rape. Victimization was related to
history of childhood sexual abuse as well as previous consensual sexu
al activity. Discussion focuses on the need for education and preventi
on programs during the secondary school years and counseling assistanc
