Aek. Jones et al., THE SUITABILITY OF CORES IN PREDICTING THE BEHAVIOR OF STRUCTURAL MEMBERS SUFFERING FROM ASR, Magazine of Concrete Research, 46(167), 1994, pp. 145-150
The use of cores to predict the expansion of structures with alkali-si
lica reaction (ASR) has been questioned elsewhere. In this Paper the u
se of the mechanical properties of cores to predict the structural beh
aviour of such structures is also questioned. Laboratory data on the i
nfluence of restraint to ASR expansion on the mechanical properties of
ASR-affected concrete, and on ultrasonic pulse velocities of columns
before and after coring is presented. The results are discussed in rel
ation to the prediction of concrete properties in ASR-affected structu
res.
