Abstract
Photolysis of an anthranilium salt, 5-methyl-3-N-tert-butyl-2,1-benzis oxazolium tetrafluoroborate (1a) gives the title nitrenium ion 2a. Und er direct photolysis of 1a, in the presence of nucleophiles (i.e. ROH) , quinone imine ethers such as (6) are the major product. Triplet sens itized irradiation gives both 6 and the parent amine 5.
