This paper describes ideas on how a spreadsheet can be an effective mo
deling and simulation tool for studying electrical circuits. An overvi
ew of the user interface is presented, and detailed explanations are g
iven so that any teacher can implement different spreadsheet models fo
r simulation. The didactical interest of such a simulation tool is dis
cussed, and a pilot in-field experiment is referred to. The teacher ro
le is emphasized. Some aspects that characterize the computer as a spe
cial instrument are highlighted.
