Abstract
Intramolecular defluoro-photocyclizations of o-arylthiofluoroaromatic compounds in aqueous solution afforded benzothiophene derivatives. Sim ilar photoreactions in acetonitrile led, when possible, to arene thiol ate displacement. A mechanistic rationale is discussed.
