The authors evaluated an innovative corporate-sponsored health care pr
ogram for retired employees and their dependents. The program included
a multidisciplinary health care team, care coordination and referral,
and health promotion workshops. Of 111 program participants who respo
nded to a mailed survey, 95 percent reported that participation helped
them maintain or improve their health through increased knowledge abo
ut their own health care and increased ability to access needed servic
es. However, the social work role on the health care team was not well
understood by program participants, suggesting the need to more clear
ly define and communicate the psychosocial component of health care se
rvices to older recipients.
