V. Goulden et al., NOTALGIA-PARAESTHETICA - REPORT OF AN ASSOCIATION WITH MACULAR AMYLOIDOSIS, Clinical and experimental dermatology, 19(4), 1994, pp. 346-349
We report three patients with notalgia paraesthetica. In two of our ca
ses amyloid deposits were found on skin biopsy. Symptoms had been pres
ent in both cases for a number of years. It is well recognized that th
e amount of amyloid present in macular amyloid is often very small and
difficult to detect. We suggest that many cases of long-standing nota
lgia paraesthetica may result in the formation of amyloid, possibly se
condary to chronic friction.
