Dipole oscillator strength distributions have been constructed for ace
tone, acetaldehyde and formaldehyde, by using constrained least-square
s methods, experimental and mixture rule dipole oscillator strength da
ta, and molar refractivity data. The distributions have been used to e
valuate recommended values for a wide variety of isotropic dipole osci
llator strength sums, logarithmic dipole sums, and mean excitation ene
rgies for each molecule. Often these results are the only (reliable) v
alues available for many of these properties which are of importance i
n a variety of research areas.
