The dependence on initial conditions of thermal production rates for p
hotons and dileptons in the quark-gluon plasma is discussed. We also c
onsider using these signals to experimentally determine plasma initial
conditions. Based on the chemical rate equations of Biro et al., we s
how that later emissions in the thermal expansion conceal information
about the initial conditions in the region of low p(T) and M, making d
etermination of initial conditions difficult.
